About Oiled Veg Tan Lambskin Leather

Our Oiled Veg Tan Lamb is a soft, luxurious leather that's been vegetable tanned with an oiled finish to give it a naked, natural, glovey feel. The grain is open and slightly raspy, which highlights the natural beauty of the leather, and gives it a distinct character. The colors are rich and deep, with a subtle shine thanks to the aniline dye and oiled finish, giving these hides a luxurious look and feel.

Oiled Veg Tan Lamb hides are on the larger side, averaging 7-10 square feet, with a consistent weight ranging from .8 mm to 1 mm (2-2.5 oz), making this leather perfect for luxury garments and apparel, small upholstery projects, and even chaps and motorcycle gear. The sueded back looks almost as nice as the finished grain side, which gives projects a clean, professional look without the need for additional lining.

Leather is a natural product. We strive to keep new lots within size, color, and quality tolerance, but some hides may have slight variations in size or color, or have natural imperfections such as scars or small holes.

Hide sizes may vary. Leather square footage isn’t measured as a true length-by-width area — it’s based on the hide’s surface area before finishing or shrinkage. Tanneries calculate footage from the raw hide stage and stamp the size on the flesh (back) side of the hide. We use the measurements provided by the tannery, but some variation in actual size is normal.
