Our Premium Trefoil Kangaroo Leather was produced by a major Australian tannery and chrome tanned to create a soft, flexible leather with dependable durability. The finished hides have a tight, smooth grain and a pigmented black surface that provides deep, uniform color.
The Story Behind “Trefoil” Kangaroo Leather
The story of Premium "Trefoil" Kangaroo Leather began when one of the largest athletic shoe and streetwear manufacturers on the planet contacted us about a substantial leather overstock.
We cannot name the company, but it has not one, but two, of the most recognizable logos in the footwear industry: the famed Trefoil and Three Stripes.
The manufacturer had commissioned a large quantity of jet-black kangaroo leather from a leading Australian tannery. The leather was intended for premium athletic footwear, but soon after the leather was purchased, the company decided to stop using kangaroo leather for their production runs, a decision that sent shockwaves through the global football (soccer) community.
This was not damaged, defective, or inferior leather. The company halted the use of kangaroo leather after receiving pressure from activist groups. Many in the Australian leather community decried this decision, citing the well-documented humane practices of local Australian tanneries, and the economic fallout that the decision would have on Australian farmers and tanners. Bad news for the Australian tanneries, but good news for LeatherSkins.com (and you).
All the hides we purchased are from the same dye lot, making the inventory itself impressively color-consistent. The pigmented finish produces a deep, rich black across the hides, and the surfaces are exceptionally clean, with very few scars, blemishes, or other defects.
After inspecting the leather, we knew we had found something special.
