Made from premium Cavallino hair-on calf, each hide features short 3–4 mm sheared hair, natural spotting, and exposed hide variation. The burnout process creates rich two-tone contrast, including a distinctive rust effect, with a mix of sheared hair and natural hide showing through. No two hides are exactly alike, making this leather ideal for designers and makers who want a one-of-a-kind material.
With a thickness of 0.7–0.8 mm (2 oz), and hides averaging 5-7 square feet, this hair-on calfskin is lightweight, supple, and easy to work with. Hide sizes may vary. Leather square footage isn’t measured as a true length-by-width area — it’s based on the hide’s surface area before finishing or shrinkage. Tanneries calculate footage from the raw hide stage and stamp the size on the flesh (back) side of the hide. We use the measurements provided by the tannery, but some variation in actual size is normal.
