About Stingray Embossed Cow Leather

Stingray Embossed Cow Leather is a premium top-grain cowhide embossed with a realistic, uniform stingray pattern, also known as shagreen. Available as generous sides that average 20–25 square feet, with a 1.2–1.4 mm thickness (3–3.5 ounces), Stingray Embossed Cowhide features a chrome/semi-vegetable tannage, a shiny aniline finish, and a soft-medium temper with a large cutting surface. Available in 3 colors: Black, Brown, and Cognac, with a subtle two-tone effect, this leather is ideal for handbags, home goods and upholstery projects, belts, footwear, leather goods, and accessories.

Why Stingray Embossed Cow Leather?

Genuine stingray leather is not just expensive, but it's somewhat difficult to work, as it has a hardened, mineralized surface that acts as a natural armor for the stingray. That hard surface makes conventional cutting and stitching extremely difficult, often breaking the needle on even the toughest industrial sewing machines. Stingray Embossed Cow Sides offer a similar luxury aesthetic while retaining the practical benefits of cowhide, including a larger cutting area, softer temper, more affordable price, and easier fabrication.

Please Note

Leather is a natural product. We strive to keep new lots within size, color, and quality tolerance, but some hides may have slight variations in size or color, or have natural imperfections such as scars or small holes.

Hide sizes may vary. Leather square footage isn’t measured as a true length-by-width area — it’s based on the hide’s surface area before finishing or shrinkage. Tanneries calculate footage from the raw hide stage and stamp the size on the flesh (back) side of the hide. We use the measurements provided by the tannery, but some variation in actual size is normal.
