About Plonge Cow Leather

Our Black Plonge Cow Leather offer the perfect blend of lightweight softness and exceptional durability, making Plonge Cow an outstanding choice for a variety of projects. Crafted with the same buttery smoothness and refined texture as lamb nappa, cow plonge stands out for its much larger size, making it ideal for large designs like home goods, outerwear, pants, skirts, and high end leather jackets.

Our Plonge Cow Leather is available in sides or whole hides, with sides averaging 25-32 square feet, and whole hides averaging 60-65 square feet, with a consistent thickness of 1.5-2 ounces. The combination of light weight, chrome tannage, and pigmented finish results in a gorgeous leather with a soft temper, delicate shine, and a smooth, supple, luxurious hand.

What is Plonge Leather?

Plonge leather (or plongé leather) is a buttery soft, lightweight leather that's most often used for garments and apparel, gloves, high end leather jackets. The term plongé comes from French tanning terminology, referring to a process that emphasizes deep oil penetration, a sanded or buffed grain side, and extreme softness and pliability. The result of Plonge tanning is a leather that feels broken-in from day one, with minimal stiffness and a smooth, luxurious hand that feels amazing against the skin.

Interestingly, Plonge leather is usually made from lamb nappa, which is what makes this Plonge Cowhide so unique. Plonge cow hides are larger, stronger, and more durable than traditional Plonge lambskin, which makes Plonge Cowhide  more versatile than its small-skin counterparts.

Please Note

Leather is a natural product. We strive to keep hide sizes consistent and keep new lots within color tolerance, but some hides may have slight variations in size or color, or have natural imperfections such as scars or small holes.

Hide sizes and dye lots may vary.
