About Garment Weight American Bison
American Bison Garment Weight is a full-grain, U.S.-sourced bison leather with the natural grain and rich texture bison is known for, in a lighter weight suited to garments and outerwear. At 3–4 oz (1.2–1.6 mm) with a soft temper, it offers flexibility and comfort while maintaining durability. Sides average 18–22 sq. ft., providing a large and reliable cutting surface.
Chrome tanned with an aniline finish, this leather highlights the distinctive bison grain while keeping surface flaws to a minimum. Its lighter weight makes it ideal for jackets, vests, and other garments, while still versatile enough for handbags, footwear, and moto gear.
Please Note
Leather is a natural product. We strive to keep new lots within size, color, and quality tolerance, but some hides may have slight variations in size or color, or have natural imperfections such as scars or small holes.
Hide sizes may vary. Leather square footage isn’t measured as a true length-by-width area — it’s based on the hide’s surface area before finishing or shrinkage. Tanneries calculate footage from the raw hide stage and stamp the size on the flesh (back) side of the hide. We use the measurements provided by the tannery, but some variation in actual size is normal.
