About Drum Dyed Bullhide
Drum Dyed Bullhide is a full-grain leather that combines the strength of traditional bullhide with an uncommon softness and pliability. With a thickness of 6–8 oz (2.4–3.2 mm), and large sides that average 20–26 sq. ft., Drum Dyed Bullhide offers a large cutting surface with minimal waste. The natural grain shows plenty of character through wrinkles and texture, but without excessive scarring or bug bites. With a soft temper, the hides drape well, while maintaining the toughness and durability that bullhide is known for.
Chrome tanned, drum dyed, and colors struck through, this leather has a gorgeous aniline finish, a rich, lasting color and a soft, floppy hand that sets it apart from conventional bullhide. Its rare balance of strength and softness makes it suitable for luxury handbags, footwear, western or moto chaps, saddlebags, outerwear, and bespoke leather goods.
A special note about this leather
Bullhide comes from adult male cattle, which are usually older and heavier than regular cattle, with a longer life and a lot more hours spent outdoors in the elements. Over time, bulls develop tougher skin than dairy or beef cattle, so traditional bullhide has a coarser grain with more visible wrinkles or scars. But while our Drum Dyed Bullhide has plenty of strength, and lots of character, the hides are extremely soft and clean, and do not have excessive scarring or bug bites.
Bullhide is prized for its strength—but usually not known for softness or pliability—that's what makes this Bullhide leather so special! Our Drum Dyed Bullhide is both strong (like bull) and extremely soft (like cow). Despite its thickness, it is extremely pliable and form fitting, but with minimal stretch.
Please Note
Leather is a Natural Product. We strive to stay consistent and keep new lots within color tolerance but some hides may have slight variations in size or color.
