Distressed Cow Plonge is a soft, thin, and supple cowhide leather known for its luxurious feel, and fluid drape. Commonly used in high-end garments, gloves, and accessories, this article combines the buttery softness of traditional lamb plonge with the durability of a cowhide, making it a great option for your next production run, garments, upholstery, or leathercraft project.
What is Plonge Leather?
Plonge leather (or plongé leather) is a buttery soft, lightweight leather that's most often used for garments and apparel, gloves, high end leather jackets. The term plongé comes from French tanning terminology, referring to a process that emphasizes deep oil penetration, a sanded or buffed grain side, and extreme softness and pliability. The result of Plonge tanning is a leather that feels broken-in from day one, with minimal stiffness and a smooth, luxurious hand that feels amazing against the skin.
Interestingly, Plonge leather is usually made from lamb nappa, which is what makes this Plonge Cowhide so unique. Plonge cow hides are larger, stronger, and more durable than traditional Plonge lambskin, which makes Plonge Cowhide more versatile than its small-skin counterparts.
Please Note
Leather is a natural product. We strive to keep new lots within size, color, and quality tolerance, but some hides may have slight variations in size or color, or have natural imperfections such as scars or small holes.
Hide sizes may vary. Leather square footage isn’t measured as a true length-by-width area — it’s based on the hide’s surface area before finishing or shrinkage. Tanneries calculate footage from the raw hide stage and stamp the size on the flesh (back) side of the hide. We use the measurements provided by the tannery, but some variation in actual size is normal.
