Conceria 800 Toscano Volanato is a premium Italian vegetable tanned cowhide produced by Conceria 800, one of Italy’s most established and respected tanneries. This leather is made using a traditional 100% vegetable tanning process and offered in single or double shoulder cuts, with average sizes ranging from 6–9 square feet for singles and 12–18 square feet for doubles. Finished at approximately 1.6 mm (4–5 oz), Toscano Volanato leather features a natural, grainy surface that reflects the character of classic Tuscan vachetta. The Volanato process enhances the natural grain, resulting in a consistent yet organic appearance across the hide.

With a medium temper and a notably soft, pliable hand, Toscano Volanato is easy to work with and well suited for refined leather goods that benefit from drape and movement. What is the Volanato leather tanning process? 

The Volanato leather tanning process is a premium full-grain leather treatment that emphasizes softness, durability, and natural grain character. After tanning, the hides are extensively drum-milled. This prolonged mechanical milling loosens the fiber structure, allowing the leather to become supple and resilient while maintaining the strength of the full grain.

As a result of this process, Volanato leather develops a naturally enhanced, fine pebbled grain, even color penetration, and a smooth hand feel without the need for heavy surface coatings.
